Bountiful Police Department Records

The Bountiful Police Department handles records requests for incident reports, arrest logs, and other documents tied to events within city limits. All requests follow Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act. Under state law, the department has 10 business days to respond to any written records request.

To start a request, put it in writing. Include the date of the incident, the location, and the names of any parties you know. A specific request is easier to fill than a broad one. The department will search their files and respond with a copy of the record, a redacted version, or a denial with a legal explanation. You can submit your request in person or by mail.

Not every record is fully open. Reports tied to active investigations, victim names in sensitive cases, and juvenile records may be withheld or redacted. A denial must include the specific GRAMA provision that allows the agency to withhold the record. If you disagree with a denial, you can appeal it.

The Bountiful City website provides department contact information and can direct you to the right person for records requests.

How to Get a Background Check in Bountiful

The Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification is the main source for a statewide criminal background check. BCI is located at 4315 S 2700 W Suite 1300, Taylorsville, UT 84129. Their number is (801) 965-4445. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Right of Access fee -- for requesting your own record -- is $20 as of July 2025.

BCI collects arrest and conviction data submitted by law enforcement agencies across Utah. If Bountiful Police or Davis County agencies reported an event to BCI, it will be part of the state record. The BCI Criminal Records page explains what is in the database and how to submit a request. For a complete picture, pair the BCI record with a court record search. Court files show the legal proceedings in detail and are open to the public at no cost for basic lookups.

Note: BCI records reflect Utah history only and will not include offenses from other states or federal courts.

Davis County Sheriff and Inmate Roster

The Davis County Sheriff is located at 800 W State Street, Farmington, UT 84025. You can reach them at (801) 451-4100. The sheriff manages the county jail and publishes an online inmate roster at daviscountyutah.gov/sheriff/inmate-roster. The roster lists names, charges, and booking photos for people currently held in the Davis County jail.

The roster updates regularly. A person who has been released will no longer appear. If you are looking for historical booking information, contact the jail records office directly.

The sheriff also handles warrant checks and other public safety inquiries for Davis County. Court-issued warrants flow into the statewide BCI system and are also accessible through the sheriff's office during business hours.

Court Records at the Second District Court

Bountiful falls under the Second District Court, which is based at 800 W State Street, Farmington, UT 84025. The court clerk can be reached at (801) 447-3800. This court handles criminal and civil cases for all of Davis County. Case filings, hearing schedules, and case outcomes are part of the public record.

The Utah Courts website provides two ways to search online. MyCourtCase is the free public portal. It lets you search by name, case number, or date range and shows basic case details, charges, and outcomes. XChange is a paid subscription service for attorneys and authorized users who need access to deeper case documents.

If you need certified copies of court documents, the clerk at the Second District Court can assist. Copy fees apply. Call ahead to confirm current rates and what forms of payment are accepted. Most criminal records are open to the public unless a judge has issued a sealing order.

Criminal History Records in Bountiful

A criminal history record for someone in Bountiful is built from data submitted by local police, the Davis County Sheriff, and other agencies to BCI. The record shows arrests, charges, and the outcome of each case, including dismissals, convictions, and sentences. Not every contact with law enforcement creates a permanent record, and not every agency submission is complete.

If your record contains an error, BCI has a dispute process. You submit documentation showing the correct information. BCI reviews it and makes corrections if the evidence supports them. Start the dispute process early. Corrections can take several weeks to process.

Bountiful residents who want to review their own state record can request a Right of Access report from BCI for $20. It is the most direct way to see what is on file with the state. The report is mailed to you after processing. The BCI website explains the full request process and what to expect.

GRAMA Records Requests in Bountiful

GRAMA gives Utah residents the right to access records held by public agencies. Bountiful city departments must follow GRAMA for all records requests. This includes police reports, city meeting minutes, inspection records, and other government documents.

Davis County also processes GRAMA requests. You can email GRAMA@DavisCountyUtah.gov or call (801) 451-3277. Davis County charges $0.25 per page for printed copies. The 10-business-day response window applies here as well. For records held by the county rather than the city, direct your request to the county department that created the document.

Under Utah Code Title 63G Chapter 2, agencies must release records unless a specific exemption applies. Common exemptions include ongoing investigations, personal privacy interests, and attorney-client privilege. If a record is withheld, the agency must cite the legal basis in their response. You can appeal any denial through the formal GRAMA appeal process.

Expungement in Bountiful

Utah law allows people with qualifying records to petition for expungement. An expunged record is sealed from public view. It will not appear in standard public background check searches. The process begins with a Certificate of Eligibility from BCI. The fee is $65 per offense as of 2025. The certificate confirms the offense is eligible for expungement under Utah law.

Once you have the certificate, you file a petition with the Second District Court in Farmington. A judge reviews the petition and decides whether to approve or deny it. If approved, the court issues a sealing order and the record is closed. Utah's Clean Slate program allows automatic expungement for certain low-level offenses without a petition. The governing statute is at Utah Code Title 77 Chapter 40a. Waiting periods apply, and serious felonies and some other offenses are not eligible.

Note: Expungement seals a record from public access, but certain government agencies may still access sealed records in specific circumstances permitted by law.
